BUYING:
Choosing the right camper is a big decision, and it's only natural to want all the details before you commit. From build quality and features to compatibility and off-road capability, we know there’s a lot to consider. That’s why we’ve put together answers to some of the most frequently asked questions—so you can feel confident, informed, and excited about hitting the road in your new HowerBuilt camper.
-
Our Railtop model has a base weight of 400lbs
The Slide-In has a base weight of 1000lbs
-
The Railtop model is what we call ‘semi-permanent,’ meaning you can remove it, but will need access to a lift and a proper place to store it.
The Slide-In is fully removable with the 4 side-mounted jacks easily coming down and lifting the camper away from the truckbed, allowing you to drive out from underneath the camper.
-
Currently, we only make Railtop models for mid-size trucks and can accommodate multiple truck bed sizes.
Slide-In units are optimized for 6’5” Full-Size truck beds and 8’ truck beds, allowing for extra behind the camper or forward garage storage between the camper and the cab of the truck.
-
Do it! We rate our roofs and lifts to a 300lb capacity that can handle a wide range of gear and roof racks.
-
RAILTOP:
With a base weight of 400lbs, it’s not insanely heavy so most suspension can handle it, but if you want the best possible ride we do recommend upgrading to a suspension rated for more weight than stock.SLIDE-IN:
Full-size trucks are already built to handle some weight, so you could put the camper right on and not have to worry… But depending on weight you’ll be putting in the camper, off-roading, and ride comfort, upgrading is always a great option.
-
We currently have a 6-month lead time.
-
We offer a limited lifetime warranty on each of our campers. We build them to last, but sometimes things happen. If something with the build, electrical system, or anything pertaining to the actual build of the camper fails/breaks, we will take care of you.
Damage caused by user is not covered.
-
Yes.
We design, build and install all of our campers out of our shop in Durango.
Over the two-day install process, your camper will be mounted, inspected, and cleaned for you to pick up and use it right away.
